The silver lining of all this searching for Dexter over the last 5 weeks is the cats and people I have met. This community really loves and cares for all the animals here on Elbow Cay and the surrounding islands.
Friends of Abaco Animals was founded in 1982 in Hope Town to ease the suffering of abused, abandoned, and needy animals of the community. By providing spay/neuter and adoption programs the problem of rapidly increasing populations of strays was dramatically reduced and the dedicated efforts of volunteers and generous donations from residents and visitors has enabled the organization to expand its mission beyond Hope Town to the entire region of Abaco, from Sandy Point to Green Turtle Cay.

Here are some of the new friends I met along the way:
And many more….
Considering that I am leaving my cat behind, I made a small donation, left food, and I made 2 shawls for them to sell.

We haven’t given up on finding Dexter. Lisa, from Cat’s Paw Rentals, and Candace are still keeping a look out and are my contacts should anyone think they have spotted him. We plan to come back through Hope Town in March and we hope for the best. My strongest wish is that he is healthy and happy and chasing curly-tailed lizards.
